Co-Founder. All Walks spokesperson Debra’s career in the communications industry has been many and varied, from working with The Beatles to design UN-award-winning eco-aware hemp T-shirts, to co-directing Lynne Franks PR, to providing PR and brand consultancy numerous clients from Jean Paul Gaultier to Swatch and Proctor and Gamble. She has contributed to a number of publications, as executive fashion editor to Arena and Arena Homme Plus; contributing editor to GQ Magazine and creative consultant to Frank Magazine.Debra has also maintained an 18-year personal commitment to psychotherapy training. |Caryn Franklin MBE
Co-Founder May 2009 – July 2015. Former fashion editor and co-editor of i-D Magazine for 6 years in the early eighties, Caryn Franklin has been a fashion commentator for 32 years. She presented the BBC’s Clothes Show for 12 years and BBC’s Style Challenge for 3 years as well as producing and presenting numerous documentaries for ITV on designers including Vivienne Westwood, Philip Treacy and Matthew Williamson as well as various other programmes including ‘Style Academy,’ ‘Frock and Roll Years,’ and ‘Style Bible.’ She has written for many magazines and newspapers and has produced 4 books to including a novel ‘Woman in the Mirror,’ published by Harper Collins.Working in education throughout her career as external assessor and lecturer in colleges like Central St Martins, London College of fashion and Royal College of Art she is also an ardent fashion activist and has co-chaired award winning Fashion Targets Breast Cancer since 96 which helped build and maintain Britain’s first dedicated breast cancer research centre; she is a Visiting Research Fellow at London College of Fashion, and Honorary Research Fellow at The Arts University College Bournemouth and also holds an Honorary Doctorate at Kingston University. She proposed the London College of Fashion, Centre of Sustainability and is its ambassador. In a natural extension – because body and beauty ideals have to be sustainable too, she co-founded the award winning All Walks Beyond the Catwalk with Debra and Erin. Co-Founder. Although she planned to make it as a dancer, Erin O’ Connor’s career took a different route in 1996 after being scouted in Birmingham. Within just a few months she found herself working with Richard Avedon on the Versace campaign.With her graceful presence and statuesque beauty, Erin is able to single-handedly purvey a dynamic new look and has acted as a muse for numerous designers, artists and photographers including Chanel, Givency, Valentino and Armani – to name but a few. To this day Erin is one of the only living people to have appeared on a postage stamp, shot by Nick Knight.Erin’s work extends far beyond the catwalk and is Vice Chairman of London Fashion Week for the British Fashion Council. She continues to write on a regular basis, and has written for leading publications including The Times, i-D Magazine, The Guardian, and a fortnightly blog for leading fashion website, Vogue.com.After contributing to The Model’s Health Enquiry, In 2007 Erin set up The Model Sanctuary. Along with stylist Kate Halfpenny, Erin has launched her own line of fair-trade cotton t shirts. Production Manager and Technical Support. After studying fine art and fashion design, Michael went on to secure placements with Gareth Pugh, Ada Zanditon and MCQ, designing for Alexander McQueen’s diffusion line. He has since worked on several styling projects, working on bespoke stage pieces for CK one, GQ Italy and many others. He has also worked with boy band JLS, styling and designing pieces for their stage.After showcasing his final collection ‘Love Letters from Hell’ at Graduate Fashion Week, Michael went on to work with Caryn Franklin for All Walks Beyond the Catwalk at London Fashion Week. He is now working as production manager, in charge of digital marketing and website design. He is also a regular contributor to the All Walks blog. As well as working with All Walks, Michael recently designed a t – shirt for eating disorder charity BEAT, which was sold exclusively at the marble arch Marks and Spencer’s, with all profit going to charity. Michael worked for Jane Galpin as a fashion assistant, working behind the scenes for shows including Disney’s Get the Look and channel 4′s How to Look Good Naked and is now freelancing. Michael also has his own blog, Quirky Gentleman’s Club and Youtube Video Blog which he regularly updates.
Online Commissioning Editor. Charlotte is a fashion writer and editor, as well as a Web Coordinator at London College of Fashion. Charlotte started at All Walks as a marketing and event production assistant on a six month internship. At the time the campaign was heavily focused on ‘SNAPPED’, an extraordinary one-off event at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), which saw nine All Walks-commissioned diverse fashion portraits, shot by Rankin at London Fashion Week displayed amongst the NPG’s permanent collection. Charlotte was heavily involved in the creation of the event literature, most notable working with Caryn in the drafting and editing of the “Rankin trail” booklet which discussed the relationships between the selected historic portraits and the modern, diverse fashion portraits.On completion of her internship, Charlotte took on her new role as Online Commissioning Editor of All Walks, focusing on the management of a team of international writers for the All Walks blog. Ben Trill is a freelance digital creative with a portfolio of clients focused on the arts, fashion, community, education and consultation.He works in web, interactive, print and illustration. Although collaborating on creative individual projects. His video/projection and installation works have been shown during London Fashion Week, and pattern designs recently published in design publications, most notably Spanish magazine ‘Texitura’. Office Management/Production coordinator In 2012, Olga decided to leave sunny Greece and move to London to make her dreams come true. Three years later, she is working as an Account Manager at a Promotional Merchandise & Events company. Having a passion for fashion but wanting to work for a good cause at the same time, she decided to contact All Walks. She is now working alongside Tineke as Production/Office Coordinator for All Walks during Graduate Fashion Week and throughout the launch of Diversity NOW!; this has given her the opportunity to bring together her background in office management and her interest in fashion. In her own words, All Walks and the team of people she has met, inspire her every day to feel confident and look beyond the surface in every aspect of life.
Fashion Illustrator and Graphic Designer. A recent fashion illustration graduate from London College of Fashion, Lizzie discovered that fashion illustration was a way to be artistic in the industry without actually making the clothes.Within her studies at LCF Lizzie explored various pathways such as fashion film, fashion photography, journalism, print design, graphic design and of course illustration. She can use design software competently but can also yield a paintbrush and ink. Lizzie has also researched and written essays on feminism in fashion and the media throughout history. More recently her dissertation explored male representation and masculinity within fashion and film studies, which makes her all the more motivated to help spread the All Walks Beyond the Catwalk message.After being approached by Caryn last year, Lizzie has brought both her illustration and design skills to the All Walks team. Office Management. Trinidadian born Tineke De Freitas currently living in London has a true passion for fashion. A respected model in Trinidad, Tineke’s no stranger to international catwalks, having modelled in Toronto Fashion Week as well as the 2006 Miss World competition where she represented her country.
An offspring of cultural integration, Tineke represents many races; Indo-Chinese on her mum’s side and Afro-European on her dad’s.
A certified Accountant and Taxation adviser, Tineke’s diverse background enables her to share in the ethos and value of All Walks as she hopes to aid in bringing to the fashion forefront…that diversity IS beauty and fashion IS individualistic! Tineke has helped co-ordinate All Walks presentation Graduate Fashion Week and the national student competition Diversity NOW!
Shoot production assistance. With a career that began in TV and Film design and production, working on productions such as Dr Who and Torchwood. Rachel’s experience started a far way away from the fashion world that she now inhabits.Rachel has previously worked as a producer on a high-profile digital campaign for Grazia magazine over London fashion week. She has also worked within the digital industry for many years on production for beauty, fashion and luxury brands and has also provided art direction for various commercial and charity digital projects.These days she is better known for her work within the fashion industry as both a Fashion Stylist and Creative Director. Her styling work spans across digital campaigns, magazine editorials, brand adverts and catwalk shows.Rachel has a strong passion for the extraordinary and unique and believes that beauty is for everyone. |Alex B. (aka Alessandra Lopez y Royo)
Academic Projects Co-ordinator. Alex is a mature model, a blogger and an academic, having held lectureships at several British Universities, most recently at the University of Roehampton, where she was Reader in Visual Culture until August 2013. After gaining a PhD from SOAS in Art History and Archaeology, Alex ‘s research interests have expanded over the years to encompass the study of performance and the visual as also psychoanalysis. She has published monographs and journal articles and has also written for print and online magazines. Alongside her academic career, Alex has been modelling for some years and this has prompted her to become more involved in the growing field of ageing studies, with an interest in the representation of older women, and older bodies, in the media. She passionately believes in All Walks and what it stands for and hopes to contribute to its future growth, working specifically in the context of higher education. Support. Rebecca is a Goldsmiths College, University of London graduate. After studying for a BSc in Psychology, Rebecca went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience. It was during her first year of her undergraduate studies that her interest in body image and well-being began. Since, her research interests have been focused on female well-being, fashion and culture. Rebecca has spent time working in mental health, and after reading about the Models’ Health Inquiry she interned at FM Agency and has also contributed to Erin’s Model Sanctuary. Director and Filmmaker. Graduating from a Skillset Media Production course at Bournemouth University with first class honours Lee has gained increasing knowledge and success as a director and filmmaker.The opportunity to work with a variety of brands, has allowed Lee to establish himself as a talented filmmaker within the music industry. Artists include Ash, The King Blues, Christina Novelli, music legend Pee Wee Ellis and currently multi-platinum singer/songwriter Kate Nash of whom he has worked steadily with for a number of years. After a few years working as a filmmaker on music and brand related content Lee caught the eye of SBTV ‘The UK’s Leading Online Youth Broadcaster’ where he continued to shoot, edit and direct online music content with the likes of Rita Ora, Mike Skinner and Jazzy Jeff to name a few.Throughout his career Lee has had the opportunity to explore a wide range of disciplines and applied them to projects ranging from music promos, short films, documentaries, live events, broadcast television, corporate videos and interactive media projects. |Elspeth MerryWriter and Special Projects. Elspeth Merry is a recent University of the Arts London graduate, achieving a first class degree in Journalism. Elspeth was features editor of UAL newspaper Arts London News, where she produced features content for the 30,000 arts students across all campuses. Whilst studying, Elspeth completed internships at The Sunday Times Style Magazine and The Daily Mirror, as well as blogging for The Huffington Post. After graduation, Elspeth spent the summer in New York City, interning at luxury fashion magazine Zink. Elspeth is currently the features coordinator at 1883 Magazine, where she drives features content and finds up-coming talent within music, fashion, art and film.
